Lord Hardinge, the then-Viceroy of India, was assassinated on December 23, 1912, during the ceremony of transferring the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Rash Behari Bose was the primary conspirator. Lord Hardinge was hit with a bomb, and while he survived, he was severely injured.
