1608: The first official English representative landed in Surat, India.
1781: American Revolutionary War: A small force of Pennsylvania militia is ambushed and overwhelmed by an American Indian group, which forces George Rogers Clark to abandon his attempt to attack Detroit.
1969: Varahagiri Venkata Giri, popularly known as V.V. Giri, became the 4th President of India.
1974: Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed became the 5th President of India
2010: In San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico, 72 illegal immigrants are killed by Los Zetas and eventually found dead by Mexican authorities.
2010: Henan Airlines Flight 8387 crashes at Yichun Lindu Airport in Yichun, Heilongjiang, China, killing 44 out of the 96 people on board.
2016: An earthquake strikes Central Italy with a magnitude of 6.2, with aftershocks felt as far as Rome and Florence.
2019: PM Narendra Modi was honoured with UAE’s highest civilian award, ‘Order of Zayed’.

1888: Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher was the 1st CM of the Bombay State (present-day Maharashtra and Gujarat). He was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India in 1954.
1889: Koyapalli Kelappan Nair, also known as, K.K. Kelappan was a famous nationalist leader, freedom fighter, and social reformer.
1908: Shivaram Hari Rajguru was a revolutionary from Maharashtra. He was mainly known for his involvement in the assassination of a British Raj police officer.
1911: Bina Das was a revolutionary and nationalist from West Bengal.
1918: Sikander Bakht, Indian field hockey player and politician, Indian Minister of External Affairs (d. 2004)
1927: Anjali Devi was an actress, model and producer in Telugu and Tamil films.
1948: Shoba Chandrasekhar is a playback singer, director, writer, and producer. She is Tamil actor Vijay’s mother.
1949: Kelachandra Joseph George is a politician from Karnataka.
1983: Aditi Dev Sharma is a TV and film actress, known for her portrayal of Gangaa Shukla in &TV’s Gangaa and Mauli in Colors TV’s Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka.
1985: M. Rajesh is a film director and screenwriter who primarily works in the Tamil film industry.
1986: Shanthanu Bhagyaraj is a film actor who has worked in Tamil language films.
1989: Geetha Madhuri is a playback singer and dubbing artist who works primarily in the South Indian film industry. She has also won 2 Filmfare awards.
1990: Abhishek Malik is an Indian television actor, popularly known for the role of ‘Harshad Saxena’ in Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan.
1991: Poonam Yadav is a cricketer who plays for the Indian women’s cricket team.

1972: Venkatarama Ramalingam, or V. Ramalingam Pillai, was a Tamil poet and independence fighter.
1993: Dinkar Balwant Deodhar was an Indian cricketer who played first-class cricket between 1911 to 1948.
2000: Kalyanji Virji Shah was a famous Indian film musician who also won the 1975 Filmfare Award for Best Music Director, for Kora Kagaz. He also received the Padma Shri.
2019: Arun Jaitley was a politician and lawyer who also served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs for the Government of India between 2014 to 2019.
