1889: Montana became the 41st state of the United States.
1895: Physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays.
1919: Madan Theatres Ltd. was founded under a Joint Stock Company at Calcutta. Their maiden venture ‘Bilwamangal’ was released on November 8, 1919 at the Cornwallis Theatre, Calcutta.
1932: Establishment of Maharashtra Branch of All India Untouchability Prevention Association.
1939: Adolf Hitler escaped assassination in Munich.

1960: Subroto Mukherjee died while having dinner in Tokyo, where he had gone with the Air India International Airlines which made its first inaugural flight to the city of Tokyo, Japan.

1965: The British Indian Ocean Territory is created, consisting of Chagos Archipelago, Aldabra, Farquhar and Des Roches islands.

1988: At 0910 hrs, One – O – Four’s moments of glory were frozen for eternity when it received the coveted colours from the then President of Indian R Venkatraman.
1988: Salman Rushdie’s ‘The Satanic Verses’ awarded 1988 Whitbread Prize.
1990: Congress (I) extends support to Chandrasekhar to form Government, even as BJP and Left parties decline the request of President R. Venkataraman to form Government. Rajasthan BJP CM Bhairon Singh Shekhwat wins confidence motion with the help of Janata Dal rebels (116-80).
1992: Mother Teresa, nobel prize winner, was presented ‘Bharat Ki Mahan Suputri’ award.
1999: The Government announces waiver of telephone bills up to Rs. 1000 in the rural areas of cyclone-hit Orissa.
2000: Queen Ingrid (90), Denmark’s Swedish born queen mother and great-grand daughter of Britain’s Queen Victoria, died in Copenhagen.
2000: India wins the men’s team title in the World Carrom championship in New Delhi.
2002: G. B. Patnaik became the 32nd Chief Justice of India.
2008: Chandrayaan-1, India’s first unmanned space mission, reached the moon’s orbit.
2016: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the BJP party led NDA government, publicly announced the withdrawal of ₹500 and ₹1000 denomination banknotes only a few hours before the implementation/imposition of diktat, i.e. from midnight, starting of November 9 (9-11 as per Indian date recordings), from the Indian economy, without popular consent, rendering 86% of Indian currency in circulation invalid. After that, new 2000 currency notes were issued.

1226: King Louis VIII of France.
1661: Guru Har Rai passed away. Second son Har Kishan became the eighth Sikh Guru age of 5 years 4 Months. He passed away at the age of 7 years 9 Months.
1674: John Milton, English poet, scholar, and diplomat.
1945: August Mackensen, a German field marshal.
1960: Subroto Mukerjee, Indian soldier; Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (b. 1911)
1965: Bashiruddin Ahmad, religious leader and litterateur, passed away.
1960: Subroto Mukherjee died while having dinner in Tokyo, where he had gone with the Air India International Airlines which made its first inaugural flight to the city of Tokyo, Japan.
1966: Rameshwari Nehru, freedom fighter and social worker, died at 80 years in New Delhi. She founded “Stree-Darpan” Magazine in 1909 and was president of “Indian Women Association”. She had received Lenin Peace Prize in 1961 for her humanitarian services for upliftment of the downtrodden.
1977: Bommi Narsing Reddy, famous film story writer and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, passed away.
1986: Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, a Soviet politician, and diplomat.
2002: Jaun Elia, an Indo-Pak Urdu poet, philosopher, biographer, and scholar.
2013: Amanchi Venkata Subrahmanyam, Indian journalist and actor (b. 1957)
